The Chandran Foundation was originally known as the PRESET Charitable Trust. It was set up by Captain Kandiah Chandran in 1996 following his retirement as Chief Executive of Presentation Housing Association.
Captain Chandran started the Trust as an education and employment charity for young people and quickly attracted support for its work from the housing association movement and local authorities.
He had seen first-hand how many young people from disadvantaged communities missed out on the education and employment opportunities that other youngsters took for granted.
With his limitless ambition and formidable business skills he has directly helped many hundreds of young people to achieve their goals.
He was awarded an MBE in 1996. Later, in 2010, he was further honoured with a OBE for his services to young people, 14 years after founding the charity.
Chitra Selby took over as Executive Director of the Chandran Foundation in 2017. Chitra is a commercial lawyer and the daughter of Captain Chandran. She has 20 years of commercial experience having first trained at a City law firm qualifying in 1998.
She believes that the need for the Foundation’s work has never been greater. With the support of her family and the Board of Trustees Chitra is developing new products designed to help young people overcome challenging personal circumstances and succeed in a fast-changing world.
