The Chandran Foundation’s core educational offer today aims to raise attainment levels for five to eleven-year-olds, many of whom, because of difficult family circumstances, may be falling behind their peers.
We currently work in schools in Lambeth and Wandsworth and will be starting work shortly at four new schools in Ealing.
The GetSmarter Club is an after-school initiative which is offered, free of charge, to headteachers and parents. The schools help to identify the children who would benefit most from the additional support.
Each session is led by two trained tutors who work with groups of up to ten children. The focus is on improving attainment in English and Maths.
In response to the Covid19 crisis, we have developed new online tuition programmes which will now play an increasingly important role in our work.
We also offer GetConfident clubs for young people of primary school age. These sessions seek to develop skills in public speaking and debating for children who struggle to contribute in class. Helping young people to improve their communication skills is key to building self-confidence and aiding further academic achievement.
